Frank Hasenfratz Centre for Excellence in Manufacturing
Kiwi-Newton Construction Ltd. has completed building the Frank Hasenfratz Centre for Excellence in Manufacturing where emphasis was placed on providing the owner with a sustainable site, using water efficiently, addressing the energy and the atmosphere as well as re-using and purchasing materials that are environmentally friendly while providing an exceptional indoor environmental quality.
Some of the more interesting elements of this project include the use of a daylighting system (using indirect natural light to illuminate the building spaces), the use of motion sensors to control the lighting in areas where there may be little movement during the day, the use of green walls, fans to draw air though the walls to be circulated in the building, and using a white roof, which gathers less heat and reduces the load on cooling systems in the summer resulting in significant reductions in energy requirements.
