OGCA Recommends MOL Withdraw Proposal for Construction Health and Safety Awareness Training

OGCA has recommended that the Ministry of Labour not proceed with the MOL’s proposal for Construction Health and Safety Awareness Training (CHSAT). It is proposing that every construction worker be required to take classroom awareness training as prescribed by the proposal. Unfortunately, it falls far short of the entry level training originally proposed in the Tony Dean Expert Panel recommendations and will duplicate much of the awareness training all workers are now required to have.

We are working with industry partners who share our concerns to address multiple concerns with the proposal to re-open the design and development of the initiative.

OGCA supports the need for quality, comprehensive health and safety training requirements for construction workers but this proposal does not meet our needs. The full response to the consultation can be found here. Letter to Minister of Labour – CHSAT  WorkShield MOL consultation response
